First Day of Spring
For Rosamarie
She messes about
On the edge of the pond,
Carefully removing last night’s fallen leaves
& generously feeding her flock
Of now large goldfish.
Warm morning sun
Dances upon light lily pads & her long tangle
Of seaweed hair as agile youth bends
Warm & slender over the pools
Flowing edge.
Mockingbird sings,
Flits persistently in the Hackberry tree
High above her, encourages her
To not linger long, preventing
His spring morning drink.
